課程概述

ME 1005:

Statics is the fundamental and core of solid mechanics. This course is based on three fundamental Newton’s force laws and simple mathematics. The topics include free body diagram, equilibrium states of solid mechanics, analysis of structures such as truss, frames, machines, frictions and moments of inertia. The materials covered in this course are beneficial for advanced solid mechanics, such as dynamics, strength of materials, elastics, etc. To gain a better understanding of the course materials, it is strongly recommended to attend each lecture, review/ preview lecture notes and accomplish homework assignments.


課程說明:

本課程是一切力學課程的入門科目,其內容雖然只是由最基本的物理定律與數學基礎所組成,但同學仍須把握住觀念。課程中提出了很多我們日常生活中常看到也常用到的器具,而這些器具也都可利用本課程的知識來分析應,故也是一門相當實用的課程,對日後修習動力學及材料力學,以及將來從事機械工程各專業,均十分有用。修課同學一定要按時來課堂上課,才能吸收教師經整理後的課程內容重點以及重要觀念的理解,有助於同學提升本課程的學習成效,且課後需按照上課進度,熟悉教科書上各章節的例題並確實完成所勾選的習題作業。
 

課程目標
ME 1005:

Statics is the fundamental and core of solid mechanics. This course is based on three fundamental Newton’s force laws and simple mathematics. The topics include free body diagram, equilibrium states of solid mechanics, analysis of structures such as truss, frames, machines, frictions and moments of inertia. The materials covered in this course are beneficial for advanced solid mechanics, such as dynamics, strength of materials, elastics, etc. To gain a better understanding of the course materials, it is strongly recommended to attend each lecture, review/ preview lecture notes and accomplish homework assignments.  
課程要求
Important note:

The level required to achieve a particular grade will not be further altered (e.g. if one scores 90, he/she will be guaranteed an A+ for the result).

The right to “adjusting” the level required to pass this course is reserved, depending on unplanned circumstance that may occur during the semester.

Homework problems are assigned every week but they will not be graded. However, it is strongly recommended to solve homework problem.

10-min quiz will be given at the beginning of the class every week except for the exam week and the week after that (i.e. no quiz on 10/13, 10/20, 11/24, 12/1).

Ten best 10 grades from the quiz will be chosen and account for 20 % of the final marks.

Attendance is not mandatory but recommended.

Being unable to turn up for an exam or a quiz will directly result in loss of credit for that quiz or exam. In such circumstances, there is no second chance given to retake exam/quiz, unless the attendee(s) is subject to exceptional/unforeseeable conditions/events (e.g. family or medical emergency).
